"We had been praying for years for people with radio experience to come and help us with our ministry and then Mark Swinerton and Eric Skattebo walked onto the scene," said Rex Campbell, Australian National Director for Oz Family Life, referring to two experienced radio people joining their team. Mark and Eric had worked together for years at HCJB Global Voice and both of their families have known each other since living in Ecuador, South America.
Now, both families are making the switch to Oz Family Life - a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia. With divorce rates at an all time high and families facing major difficulties, a ministry that focuses on strengthening marriages - and turning houses into Godly homes - is much needed in Australia. The founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, Bill Bright, once said, "If you can reach the family, you can reach the nation" and that is exactly what Oz Family Life is setting out to do.
The two main methods that Oz Family Life is using is radio and marriage conferences. The "Family Life Today" radio program is currently on 15 stations in Australia and 3 internationally - with goals of increasing to over 200 stations across Australia and beyond. Australian radio station managers have told Oz Family Life that if there program was geared more towards Australians and the "Oz" culture, it would gain a greater acceptance and more stations would be willing to air it. However, up until now, Oz Family Life did not have people with radio experience and "know how" as part of their team.
Eric Skattebo has been producing international Christian radio programs for over 5 years and, along with his wife Jean, have just completed a 4 year term with HCJB Global Voice. Beginning in 2008, they are excited to apart of this new challenge of reaching Australians for Christ through a marriage/family ministry.
If you know Jean and Eric, you know that they are relationship oriented people who will fit in well in a relationship focused ministry. In addition to radio, Jean and Eric will help with marriage conferences. These conferences give Biblical based marriage guidance and have a clear Gospel presentation in each one. Countless marriages have been helped and many people have either come to the Lord or rededicated their lives to Christ at these conferences.
Also, Eric will be part of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia's new Creative Ministry team that will be involved in video production and internet evangelism.
